About AC Timber Trading
280 years of expertise in wood import and craftsmanship
What began in 1740 as a local brewery evolved into a leading player in the European wood sector. Over eight generations, the van Hoorebeke family built a company driven by innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable growth. This rich tradition remains the foundation of AC Timber Trading today.
A family business with a strong historical foundation
Since Ambrosius van Hoorebeke began trading building materials in the 18th century, the company has continuously evolved in line with market needs. The 19th century marked major milestones: the import of sawn wood by seagoing vessel, the establishment of a sawmill in Ghent‑Langerbrugge, and further expansion under the names van Hoorebeke Frères and van Hoorebeke en Zoon.
After the Second World War, growth accelerated. In 2000, the name van Hoorebeke Timber NV became official, and in 2006 the company relocated to the Kluizendok — a strategic site offering modern infrastructure and advanced logistical capabilities.

A wood company with a strong future vision and international ambition
At the end of 2020, Véronique van Steenberge and her husband Benoît Clarysse took over the family business Hout – Bois van Steenberge from her father, Marc van Steenberge.
Their international ambition, focus on professionalism and commitment to innovation marked the next step in the company’s evolution.
Since 2023, van Hoorebeke has been part of van Steenberge Invest, a holding company dedicated to sustainable growth, innovation and family values. Building on this solid foundation, AC Timber Trading continues to shape a future centred on quality, reliability and sustainability.
